Lagos Assembly summons commissioner, landowners over planned demolition of houses

The Lagos State Home of Assembly on Tuesday summoned two officers of the state authorities and a few landowners over the alleged planned demolition of some houses in Jakande Property within the Eti-Osa space of the state.

The 2 authorities officers are the state’s Commissioner for Housing, Mr. Moruf Akinderu-Fatai, and the Managing Director of Lagos Constructing Investments Firm (LBIC) Mr. Oluwatobi Lawal.

The Home summoned the officers after the Deputy Majority Chief, Noheem Adams, raised “Issues of Pressing Public Significance” on the plenary in Ikeja.

Adams instructed his colleagues that the residents who had been the ages of 70 and 80 stormed his home within the early hours of Tuesday and appealed to the state authorities to cease the demolition of their houses.

He mentioned: “It is going to be recalled that almost all of the residents lived in Maroko earlier than their houses had been demolished within the Nineties they usually had been relocated to the Jakande Property in Eti-Osa native authorities space of Lagos State.”

The lawmaker famous that the residents had lived peacefully within the space till not too long ago when the threats of demolition got here up.

The residents, based on him, had written a petition to the Home for the decision of the matter.

Adams added: “On September 23, some members of the Home led by the Chairman of the Home Committee on Public Petitions, Victor Akande visited the Jakande Property with some officers from the LBIC who had promised that they won’t demolish buildings within the space.

“Nonetheless on October 12, officers of the LBIC went to the property to mark houses for demolition.”

One other lawmaker, Rotimi Olowo, described the scenario of the residents as pathetic.

The Speaker of the Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa, earlier than approving the invitation of the commissioner and the LBIC boss, harassed the necessity for the lawmakers to know the federal government’s place earlier than taking any determination on the difficulty.
